Fashion for a Cause: JNS Apparel
Recently I did a collaboration with JNS Apparel. A company local to the Dallas area, JNS Apparel makes embroidered clothing; from dad hats, to denim jackets, even custom designs. Cool right? What's even better is that a portion of the proceeds go directly to restoring and rebuilding women who are rescued from sex trafficking. I got a chance to talk to Jade Shellis, founder of JNS Apparel and hear her heart and reasoning behind getting involved with the cause. I also got to create a sick custom jacket with her that I can't stop wearing!
Jade started embroidering last year when she couldn't find a jacket in her price range. "I thought to myself, I can just make myself one! My grandfather's 'lady friend' (LOL) has her own quilting and embroidery business so I went to her house and made my first jacket." After getting her first few custom orders, she invested in her own machine in December of 2016.
I asked Jade why she decided to go the nonprofit route as a young business owner. "Dallas is the second largest hub for sex trafficking in the country. I spent over a year in a safe house with my mom ministering to girls who were rescued from exploitation and trafficking. I saw first hand the devastation and knew that I wanted my business to help make a difference in my city."
You may be curious about where exactly your money is going. JNS apparel partners directly with Sparkle Living, her mom's ministry geared towards women. Sparkle Living is on a mission to open transitional homes across the country for the girls who have gone through restoration after being rescued and need a way to reenter society, teaching them everything they need to know from cooking, cleaning, finances, budgeting etc. "By partnering with Sparkle Living, I'm able to participate in the rebuilding of these women's lives. I want to be a part of trying to stop sex trafficking."
While supporting local business is amazing, supporting local businesses with a greater purpose is even better! I love that I get a chance to advertise this amazing brand while rocking my custom jacket. Sex Trafficking has been on my heart since a young age as well, so it was even more of an honor to partner with JNS Apparel after hearing the reason behind the company's launch.
At just 22 years old, Jade has built this company from the ground up, but she hasn't done it alone. She was quick to shout out her amazing team, Isabella Cartolano and Blair Galan. They tag team orders that come in and help Jade come up with design ideas. In fact, their newest summer collection just dropped this week and you can shop it below!
